There has been no clear way to prompt a customer to contact Forespar when ordering a product which is “oversize” requiring special handling or maybe even a truck. In the past there was a note tacked to the SKU number which is a bad practice for several reasons.
The following steps outline the simple way to notify a web customer that they need to contact Forespar to arrange shipping.
We understand that there are instances when something tagged “Oversize - Contact Forespar...” actually can be shipped UPS. If we were to program in special cases for each product it would end up requiring the shopping cart software to be re-written, which is not an easy task. Even then, since almost every case is unique, it would be a never-ending task keeping an "Oversize Shipping" module updated. So for simplicity and to make the thing work as easily as possible, there is only one setting: “Oversize - Contact Forespar...”.
Because of the simplicity of this feature, the over-riding motto is:
If shipping is EVER a problem, it's ALWAYS a problem.
What that means is, don't try to 2nd guess any particular item (SKU number). If most of the Crew Overboard poles can be shipped UPS but multiple units need special handling, then mark the item as "Oversize - Contact Forespar..." Let Customer Service deal with the details. They already end up taking care of it anyway.
